“You should sit in meditation for twenty minutes everyday - unless you're too busy; then you should sit for an hour.” — Dr. Sukhraj Dhillon

In a world where we can be online 24/7, taking intentional breaks and unplugging from our digital devices is no longer just a lifestyle luxury: it’s an essential health practice that we want and need to cultivate regularly. Information overload, digital overwhelm and fatigue: As a digital society, the value of taking time away from the “noise” is becoming increasingly clear.

Breaks and rest are often the first thing that get put at the end of our to-do list when life gets busy, so today is all about rediscovering the value of taking these moments to unplug and finding ways to incorporate them into your daily schedule.

Today’s Activity: Savouring Nature

  • Dedicate a portion of your day to being in nature. This could be a walk in a nearby park, a hike, or simply sitting in your garden. Engage your senses – notice the sights, sounds, and smells around you. During this time, consciously disconnect from your digital devices. Leave your phone behind or switch it to do-not-disturb mode.

  • Reflect on your experience. How could you incorporate more moments to recharge in your daily life?

  • The VAKOG Technique is a powerful technique to calm your nervous system and boost wellbeing. During your nature immersion, notice:

    • Something novel you see (V for Visual)

    • Something novel you hear (A for Auditory)

    • Something novel you feel/can touch (kinaesthetic)

    • Something novel you can smell (olfactory)

    • Something novel you can taste (gustatory)

  • Distraction-free meals
Enjoy your meals without digital devices and focus fully on the flavours of your meal. If in company, use this time as an opportunity to connect with people you care about.

  • Make a “Recharge” List
Think about the activities you enjoy doing and that replenish your batteries. How could you incorporate more of these into your day?

Remember:

  • If used wisely and intentionally, digital tools can be a great asset, not a liability.

You are almost at the end! See you on day 10!
